Zzz...

Today was one of those days where evening arrives and you go 'Wait... did I do anything today??' I lost half of the day standing in the far corner of a gymnasium waiting for people to be interested enough in my son's preschool to come by. Not many did... attendance was lame. Oh well... at least I handed out a few brochures.

Coralie was really being a troll today... she must be feeling better. ;-)

I recently had to take my son with me to the pharmacy for some feminine items. We had this conversation while I was putting on his shoes:

Me- 'Keelan, we need to go to Rite Aid.'
K- 'What for?'
Me- 'I need to buy some things.'
K- 'What kind of things?'
Me- 'Mommy things.'
K- 'What kind of mommy things?'
Me- 'Um, pads.'
K- 'What are pads?'
Me- 'Uhh... they're... umm... for mommies.'
K- 'But what are they for?'
Me- 'They're, uh, just mommy things.'

Fortunately, at this time I was able to distract him from his line of questioning as we were going out the door. I should add that he has seen them before and calls them 'mommy diapers' but I decided that I wasn't going to mention that, lest he yell 'MOMMY DIAPERS!' in the store.
Sorry little dude, I am just not ready to explain all that to you yet.

The End

A fitting end for this fine day: A leaky pipe under the kitchen sink, which has been slowly flooding the under-sink cabinet for an unknown amount of time. *sigh*

TGIF, Random Bits

You might wonder why I say 'TGIF' when I am a stay at home parent, but-

1. It's payday
2. It means that The Husband can finally do his share of the parenting duties
most importantly:
3. I don't have to set the alarm clock

I am eternally glad that the kids are now back to their regularly scheduled program... but it is nice to not have any morning obligations. Now, if I could just get those kids to feed themselves in the morning, I'd be good to go.

I've spent every single night for the past week picking nits and looking for hatchlings in my daughter's hair. I am so over this.

I am now shopping for memory for my PC. I had no idea that memory shopping for an older PC was going to be such a nuisance! And expensive too. Plus, I keep getting conflicting reports on how many slots I have- Crucial says I have two. MemoryTen says I have four. I guess I'm just going to have to take the damn thing apart and see... :-( At any rate, I still think I can add memory for less than the price of a new PC. Maybe then it won't take 30 seconds to load a program...

My kids are obsessed with watching 'WALL-E' and watch it every day. Keelan keeps mispronouncing 'EVE' as 'BEAV'. Yeah, you just try to keep a straight face.

Oh, and we had our first successful letterboxing adventure today. We would have done more (the park we were at has 8), but the kids got tired of walking and a little cold. Still, the kids thought it was pretty fun, and we all got exercise.

Busy-ness

My son will turn three next Monday. I am beginning the preparations for his birthday BBQ on Sunday. I was supposed to go to the grocery store today, but because of some other things that are going on, I couldn't go in the morning. I really hate grocery shopping with the kids. So, I decided to shop online instead, and my groceries will arrive tomorrow afternoon. Stress and impulse-buy free! I will have a larger than usual dairy order tomorrow, because I'm ordering extra cheese and organic ice cream for the party. So in the end, there were only a couple of things I didn't get online that I'll have to go to the store for, so not too bad.

Wednesday is a busy day... cleaning lady is coming, groceries are coming, the milk man is coming, kids have a play date, I have to go to the gym at 6 am...

My husband's grandma is dying. As my father-in-law put it, 'she's got the death rattle'. He said she's not really responsive at all now. They expect she may pass in the next couple of days. Grandpa is having a hard time coping. In fact, my father-in-law said that's what he's most worried about. Grandma is already gone, for the most part, it's just her body that's lingering, but grandpa is struggling with it. It's not unexpected but still very sad. We are close to them. They just had their 68th wedding anniversary a week ago.

Kids spent a lot of time in the little inflatable pool today... in fact, I went in it with them after dinner. The water had been in there all day, so it was warm from the sun and very nice to lay in. Despite the grass and other mystery bits floating in it.

I started reading 'The Omnivore's Dilemma'... I wish I could read more of it faster, but you know, with the kids around it is almost impossible to read more than 5 words at a time. Still, I'm reading the section about corn, which is both fascinating and terrifying. And sad, what has become of the farmer in this day and age, and that so many farmers cannot even make ends meet without government assistance despite the massive amounts of crop that they churn out.

I've been coveting facial products on Bliss Spa's web site. Although not insanely expensive (not their own brand stuff, anyway) I still don't really need it and don't have the extra fundage to buy it anyway. Besides, I just spent $100 on Lia Sophia jewelery via my cleaning lady. Gotta support the small-business people, right? ;-)

Nuts!

Soap nuts, that is. A kilo size bag of soap nuts for the laundry. Many, many loads of laundry. They smell funny, but so far don't make the wash stinky.

I overheard my children say the following while in the bath:
Coralie- 'Keelan smells like poo poo!'
Keelan- 'I know!'
This was followed by much farting in the bathtub.

I had an electrician install two motion-activated switches in the kid's rooms, because they are really bad about leaving their lights on all day. I bought the switches, and hired someone to install them because the wires in the switch box were too long and I couldn't get the switch in the box myself. They charged me $114 to install two switches that I already had. To top it all off, they don't really work as intended because the kids are too short to be in the field of view of the motion sensor. Duhhhh.

My daughter is obsessed with the 80's ska band 'Bow Wow Wow'. She insists on listening to it in the car. I hate it, so I make her listen to 'The Dandy Warhols' instead... unfortunately my husband likes it, so when we're all in the car I'm forced to listen to it :-(.

My husband thinks my birth control pills are making me irritable... No, it's you not unloading the dishwasher that's making me irritable, dammit! ;-)
The more I have to fool around with these pills, the more I think maybe I should just have the surgery that will get rid of my problems with Aunt Flo.

My kids have been making me sing 'The 12 Days of Christmas' at bedtime. Hello kids, it's April!!
That's all for now folks...

Random Bits

Coralie spent the entire day with her grandparents today, fishing at a friend's Trout pond. She caught two fish and had a fantastic time. I'm so glad that she has these opportunities, because I didn't. My maternal grandparents both died when I was very young, and my paternal grandparents have always lived out of state. Even though my parents were (are LOL) hippies, they weren't the outdoorsy types, so I only got to go camping once a year with the daycare that I attended. I have fond memories of that camp...

I'm finally getting back on track with my meal planning... I was really burned out on it for awhile, but it's actually less work to plan and shop for meals for the whole week. Plus I tend to spend less money. I bought the book Saving Dinner and I've been following that. I used to be a member of her site, but it's easier for me to rearrange meals with the book, if there's something I don't like, whereas with the Menu Mailer you just get your meals for the week and I wasn't very good about saving them for reference. Although, I think you can get past menus through the site, it's more convenient having them all in a book. The bummer is that with the book, you don't have all the other options, such as crockpot, freezer, frugal, low carb etc. that you have with the email menus. So far, everything I've made has been good (to me anyway, the kids won't eat most of it LOL). I have to give credit to Coralie, for at least *trying* the cabbage rolls, even though she didn't like them. :-)

We saw 'The Bourne Ultimatum'... WOW!!! More love (LUST) for Matt Damon, let me tell you... it was fantastic. I also recently rented 'Saw 3'... ehh, it was okay. Twisty but unsatisfying ending.

I recently bought the new Interpol album, 'Our love to admire', and I'm really enjoying it. So many albums are such a disappointment these days, but this one is really good. Anymore, I usually just buy songs from iTunes and make mix CD's, because buying complete albums can be such a waste when there's only two good songs. At least with iTunes, for the price of a new CD I can get *all* good songs.
AND.... I HAVE MY MUSE TICKETS!! It's been a long time since I've been so excited about a concert... only one more month to go! I hope they don't suck live... :-/

We now have an enormous (but as of yet unpainted) shed in our backyard. Now, we'll see how many months it takes for The Husband to actually *move* stuff into it. It has been the Neverending Shed Project, with about 40 trips to the home improvement store (because MEN DON'T MAKE LISTS) for things not included in the kit, numerous cuts, and smashed thumbs. Now it looks like we have a mother-in-law suite in our backyard.

Well, that's all the random bits for now, I have to get up at 5 am to go do my penance at the gym.

Random Bits

Tonight I watched Bear Grylls drink liquid squeezed out of elephant poo and eat raw zebra from a fresh lion kill. I still prefer 'Survivorman' Les Stroud... because he's a real everyman, and how else would I have learned how to make fire with a match and a frito? Anyway, Bear is cute and English so, I watch. Plus, his name is Bear Grylls. Can that be for real??

The other day, there was a program on this family. No joke, she really is that small. I read on someone else's web page that they thought she looked like a Gelfling. I hadn't thought of it before, but she totally does.

Pics from Coralie's birthday party:

Keelan fell and nailed his face on a dresser drawer today... Dresser-1, Boy-0
He cut his eye and has a welt from his forehead down to his cheek. Poor Little Dude.

Dude, Christmas is COMING IN FIVE DAYS. I can't believe it!!
Our tree is up, it has four ornaments on it, all above waist height. Keelan likes to smack the tree. Coralie likes to shove random toys underneath it.
