Not Your Mama's Sensible Car

This is my new car. This is a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon. You might be thinking, 'you have two little kids... WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!' The answer is that this car will not be our regular kid hauler. Although, we did make sure that Keelan's car seat will fit in it for those occasions when we do need to take the kids somewhere in it. I can't even begin to relay how excited I am about this car. I have wanted one of these for years... ever since they first came out. (I know, I'm lame LOL) In previous car shopping/buying episodes, the time/budget wasn't right, or we couldn't find an automatic... so we never seriously considered it before now. It isn't totally optioned-out or anything, and it's a 4 cylinder (for the good gas mileage, although I test drove the V6 and it was seriously tempting). It's *exactly* what I was looking for, sunroof, cruise control, & AC. Those were the only accessories I was looking for. We really put the salespeople through the wringer, but we were determined not to get screwed this time... we had to talk to the saleslady's boss, then we had to talk to his boss, who had to work it out with his boss... the first thing they offered us was an 84 month term. Yes, 84 months. We said 'Are you crazy? No way!' So we had to chip away at them LOL. In the end, we did get a better term and better money on our trades (they really tried to stiff us on that) but we had to put down nearly half of the money in our bank account. That was a painful check to write LOL. We can recover from it, but still...
Coralie is pretty excited about it. I didn't know how she would feel about it since we had to trade our 2001 Corolla as part of the deal (she was attached to that car for some reason) but she was excited- 'A yellow car! Wow, it's so pretty!'

We did the exact opposite two years ago. We sold our dream car--a BMW 750iL in order to purchase a new Nissan Quest, and we've never been happier.

I've always thought the Tiburon was a cool looking car, but I'd have gotten something even more impractical like a '56 Porsche 356 convertible or a '73 Porsche 911 Targa. Enjoy!
